Yes! I think there is also somehow a natural aversion, in the sense that consciousness moves toward its own awareness, and the darkest of humanity represent the most unconscious aspects of the whole.

And lighter we feel, the more we might feel sensitive to the darkness, feel more deeply impacted by it. This may even be by design, who knows.

We have to be quite strong, after all, quite steady in our consciousness to be able to show up to the worst of life with deep compassion. And yet, as you say, it’s integration that is required, not further separation.
